Press release September 4, 2009
Urban Age Symposium, Mexico City
The Urban Age Mexico City Symposium will be held on Friday September 4th 2009 in the MIDE Museum, Tacuba 17 in the Historic Center of Mexico City.
For this day-long event, Urban Age brings city leaders together with renowned academics and practitioners to share experiences with projects and policies that improve our cities.
The Urban Age Symposium will continue the work to establish a new urban agenda for global cities. It will be a follow up of the Urban Age Mexico City Conference in 2006 and will engage some of the recent ideas and projects in the realms of transportation, public space and urban development that the city has envisioned, as well as discuss how cities are responding to the current economic crisis in order to strengthen and consolidate their economies.
With over half the world's population now living in cities, the Urban Age conferences offer a platform to help cities and their leaders learn from one another. Over the past five years, Urban Age has held major conferences in world cities including Mumbai, Shanghai, Johannesburg, Mexico City and Sao Paulo. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Mexican former President Vicente Fox, and the mayors of Berlin, Bogotá, Mexico City, New Delhi and Washington, DC have joined a network of experts, including economist Nicholas Stern and sociologists Saskia Sassen and Richard Sennett, leading architects Norman Foster, Enrique Norten, Rem Koolhaas and Charles Correa to explore the connection between the physical form and social characteristics of cities as diverse as Johannesburg, Berlin, Kolkatta and London.
By engaging different audiences, publics and experts, Urban Age is able to take part and bring a wide range of experiences to the heart of the debate on the future of cities.
