Urban Age is coming back to Shanghai: The Endless City
The Urban Age Project by the London School of Economics and Deutsche Bank´s Alfred Herrhausen Society edited by Ricky Burdett and Deyan Sudjic, published by Phaidon
Book Presentation on 30 May, 2008 in Shanghai, Creek Art Centre
At a time where half of the world´s population live in cities the newly released book "The Endless City" edited by Ricky Burdett and Deyan Sudjic is an authoritative survey of the impact of cities now and the prospects for our urban future. 34 contributors from across Europe, South America, China, Africa and the U.S. set the agenda for the city – detailing its successes as well as its failures.
New York, Shanghai, London, Mexico City, Johannesburg and Berlin illustrated by photos, graphics, data and essays by 15 influential critics, 10 policy makers and 9 architects and planners.
"The Endless City" mirrors the worldwide dialogue between heads of state, policy makers, mayors, architects, urban planners and academics as an outcome of the Urban Age project, a series of international conferences organized by the Deutsche Bank´s Alfred Herrhausen Society and the London School of Economics.
Three years after the Urban Age Shanghai Conference, the city is more interesting than ever especially in light of the upcoming Olympic Games and the Expo. Wolfgang Nowak, Managing Director of the Alfred Herrhausen Society and former adviser to the German Chancellor Schröder states:
“Shanghai is one of the most successful metropolitan areas of the world. It is already seen by many other asian countries as a model-city. It is a city of the future and this is the reason why the Expo is coming to Shanghai. I am convinced that the experience of Shanghai and the Expo will help other cities to find a better solution for their problems - but only if Shanghai develops a chinese face, instead becoming a faceless city like many other new cities.”
"The Endless City" will be presented on 30 May, 2008 6.-7.30 p.m. followed by a reception.
Location:
Creek Art Centre
Behind 423 Guang Fu Road, Near Wu Zhen Road
