On July 10th 2014, the panel discussion "Handmade Urbanism: Exploring Grassroots Initiatives in Cities" took place at the Seminar Hall, Kamladevi Complex India International Centre. The panel discussion was based on the book co-edited by Marcos L. Rosa and Ute E. Weiland and published by Jovis (2013) that explores the experiences of participatory urban projects in Mumbai, Sao Paulo, Istanbul, Mexico City and Cape Town and will examine the role that grassroots initiatives can play in cities in the developing world.
On July 15th, 2014, the 8th edition of the Foresight Lecture took place at Freie Universität Berlin. Shalini Randeria, Professor of Social Anthropology and Sociology at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva spoke about "The Shadow of the (Cunning) State: Legal Plurality and Governance of Life in India".
This year, the Deutsche Bank Urban Age Award will be presented to a project in the wider Delhi area. Europe is at a crossroads. The “European Writers' Conference” and the “Long Night of European Literature” took place on May 8, 2014 in Berlin. On May 9, 2014, the symposium "Europe - Dream and Reality" was designed as a platform for writers, philosophers, politicians and economists in order to discuss our European model of civilisation in the run-up to the 2014 European elections.
