Book presentation: „Die Welt braucht den Westen – Neustart für eine liberale Ordnung“
Alfred Herrhausen Gesellschaft and German Marshall Fund of the United States present Thomas Kleine-Brockhoff’s new book
Alfred Herrhausen Gesellschaft and the German Marshall Fund of the United States are jointly hosting the presentation of the book „Die Welt braucht den Westen – Neustart für eine liberale Ordnung“ - „The World Needs the West – A New Start for the Liberal Order“ (Edition Körber). The USA is lost, the West is dying, the international order is at its end – forecasts of doom are ever more on the rise. But whoever argues like this, says author Thomas Kleine-Brockhoff in his new book, is surrendering to the nationalist zeitgeist without putting up a fight. Instead of complaining, the defenders of liberal democracy should rather go on the offensive. Therefore, Kleine-Brockhoff introduces the concept of “robust liberalism” in order to restore the West’s credibility and its ability to act. The book is an encouragement for friends of freedom and the power of the political center. The much scolded West and its ideals – they are still needed.
Thomas Kleine-Brockhoff is Vice President and Berlin Office Manager of the German Marshall Fund of the United States. From 2013 to 2017, he was advisor to the German Federal President Joachim Gauck and led the working group that prepared his speeches. From 1989 until 2007, he worked as an editor and correspondent of the ZEIT in Hamburg, Bonn and Washington D.C.
Anna Herrhausen, Managing Director at Herrhausen Gesellschaft, will open the event. Friedrich Merz, former President of Atlantik-Brücke e. V., will present the book. A subsequent discussion with Thomas Kleine-Brockhoff, Friedrich Merz and Dr. Constanze Stelzenmüller, Henry A. Kissinger Chair, Library of Congress, will be moderated by Christiane Hoffmann, Deputy Manager of the capital office of DER SPIEGEL.
